Susan and I visited the Gregory river north of Proserpine on our Journey north.
Ted has regularly fished this section of the river on foot during the last 20 years.
Susan had her first lure casting lesson just prior to lunch. Later in the day in a more shaded area Susan had her first strike when a cod attacked the lure. No hook up unfortunately. Here we are with a fine bottle of red wine and a picnic hamper at the "Sandstone ledge". There were not many fish active on this day but I did manage to get a rise out of a couple of keeper Barra. I actually caught a fair sized flathead, Susan photographed me and the catch but refused to let me kill it. This was a surprise considering that she always stirs me when I come home empty handed.
Here Susan has her first lure casting lesson. Not long after this shot she had her first strike. While I have fished the Gregory for about twenty years I rarely meet other fishermen while fishing. It is a relatively remote spot only accessable through private property. I have been priviledged to have had access to it. The river is the only public access and there are dangerous rock bars prior to reaching this section which deters weekend boating. I have never seen a croc here. As I fish on foot it is likely that I would have seen crocs about, particularly in winter. None seen to date although reports of them further down the river.
This is the area I have asked my family to spread my ashes. I've had so much enjoyment fishing the river on my own and in company that I've thought it fitting to finally reside
here.
