Darwin is famous for its sunsets. Well these photos don't do them justice. Without a better camera or more skill, these are the best I can do. These shots are all taken around East Point on the northern side of the harbour. Many of Darwin's large gun emplacements were here during the war. There function was to protect the harbour from a sea attack. The preperations included a boom net that went about 8klms across the mouth of the harbour. (Remains of the installation are still visible at low tide) The air raid in 1942 nullified these installations. There are still many WW2 sites that have been preserved and sign posted for tourists. A war museum is situated on this point as well.

Susan andI have been walking 6 klms most mornings. We have one day off a week. East point has an excellent walking track along the beaches and low cliffs. We spent an hour doing our 6 klms one evening followed by some sunset photography. While Susan refreshed with a bottle of cool water, I cooled down with a Rum and Coke. I just love to use an old empty rum bottle as the drink mixer. I keep it in the car fridge just for that purpose. Susan is always horrified by my lack of good manners at these times. I was getting a reprimand for drinking from my rum bottle in public in this shot on East Point. Hells Bells we'd just finished 6klms at pace, a man deserves some latitude. I think the full moon in the background got to her. Posted by Picasa
