The diversion dam at Kununurra. This is the dam that supplies the Ord River irrigation water to the channels. Note the moveable gates that allow for flood mitigation. The Ord Dam is a further 45 klms up river and fronts Lake Argyle. We were fortunate to have neighbours, John and Trish, take us up the river on a day trip. Below is a commercial tour operator who takes tourists up river to the Ord Dam.

Ord river scenery

John, Trish, Susan and I on a sandy beach having a picnic lunch. We are about 35 klms up river from Kununurra. We caught a few sootie grunter just to keep our skills honed. Susan came prepared to swim, but although there are not supposed to be crocs in this section of the river it looks much too threatening. Smart girl did not swim, much to my relief.
